How to Test a Battery With a Multimeter
A multimeter can provide useful voltage information, but voltage alone does not establish a battery’s usable capacity or health.
Before measuring
Set the meter correctly for the battery and measurement, use intact leads, observe polarity, and avoid shorting terminals.
Interpret cautiously
Measured voltage depends on chemistry, state of charge, recent charging/load and temperature. Use the battery manufacturer’s specifications rather than a universal internet number.
